Camping – Kayaking trip to Mutton Cove, Abel Tasman

January 9th, 2009  |  Published in Abel Tasman, Family trips, kayak trips, kids

The highlight of our summer holidays was definitely our kayaking trip to Mutton Cove where we got to stay one night.

We started at Tata beach in Golden bay and set off across the Wainui Inlet.  Unfortunately the swell started to get up and it got a little scary!  But a short rest on the first beach was excellent.

We got to see quite a bit of wildlife.  Out to sea opposite Whariwharangi beach we watched a seal thrashing an octopus about.

A little further on we spotted a little penguin.

We were reminded how fortunate we are living so close to Abel Tasman Park.  Andy had fun taking a few photos around Kaiteriteri – only 25 minutes away!

We took a weekend get away to Marahau (The entrance to Abel Tasman national park) We stayed in the Barn campsite (can definitely recommend it) and with such a short walk to the beach we spent most of the time playing in the water.

Flying over Abel Tasman

Recently Karen was fortunate enough to take a flight over Abel Tasman. She took off at Motueka airport and spent the next hour and a half marvelling our local national park from an elevated view! Abel Tasman from the airAnother stunning bay from Abel Tasman

We flew over the park and then along Golden Bay. We briefly flew down the the West Coast and back flying above the Wainui Inlet. The next sight was the Fairwell Spit before flighing home to Motueka.
